There were four children born there: Ruth, Sally, Annie and William Richard. William Sr. had tuberculosis and it was decided to go to Western Canada for his health. They settled on a small holding in the Mount Pleasant area of Vancouver in 1890. Another daughter, Jessie, was born on January 11, 1892. Later the family moved to Chilliwack and opened the Fashion Livery Stable within a couple of blocks of the Five Corners.
