George Cruickshank worked for the Province of British Columbia Department of Agriculture as District Agriculturist from 1949 to 1972. He started the Dairy Education Committee in 1968 with Peter Ewert. He worked at the Abbotsford office from 1972 to 1981. George also served as vice-chair on the Down Country Roads Committee which produced a pamphlet on Chilliwack's agricultural history. Born and raised in Vancouver he attended U.B.C. and received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. He and his wife Thelma Kathleen Macklen were married in Vancouver in August of 1943, shortly after he received his wings in the RCAF. He moved to Chilliwack in 1949 to take the job as District Agriculturist. The couple had four children: Colin, Bryan, Karen and David.
