The Miss Chilliwack Pageant grew out of the 1927 Cherry Carnival at which a contest for the "Cherry Carnival Queen" was undertaken. The winner of the contest was known as "Miss Chilliwack". In 1972, the idea of a new and revised contest was introduced, evolving to a pageant type format. Contestants could be sponsored by local merchants, schools and organizations and the winners were decided by a panel of judges. Since 1972, the pageant became the official opening of the Chilliwack Country Living Festival. In 1975 the Miss Chilliwack Pageant Association obtained a franchise in the Miss PNE Pageant; in 1978, the Miss Dominion of Canada Pageant and in 1982 the Miss Canada Pageant. In 1992 the Miss Canada Pageant was discontinued and in 1993 the Miss Chilliwack Pageant Association was changed to the Miss Chilliwack Pageant - Youth Ambassador. |
