Admin/Biographical History |
In 1999, the Chilliwack Economic Partners Corporation and the Chilliwack Arts Alliance developed the Chilliwack Cultural Strategy. It identified the need for facilities to host and nurture arts and culture programs and experiences for all. In the next 9-10 years, the City developed a plan of what facilities should be included in the cultural centre as wanted by the community. Construction was started on July 9th, 2008 by the Bird Construction Company. The Chilliwack Cultural Centre opened to the public on September 25th, 2010, consisting of the O'Connor Group Art Gallery, the HUB International Theatre, the Rotary Hall Studio Theatre, 21 music instruction rooms, four arts and crafts studios, meeting rooms, and other amenities. A Board of Directors was appointed in December 2008 to administrate and operate the centre on behalf of the city. |
