Admin/Biographical History |
The Vedder Crossing is a community that was establlished in 1909 between Sardis and Cultus Lake. The community attracted visiting fishermen, hunters, and campers and was made up of labourers and farmers. Businesses sprung up with the establishment of a logging camp in 1927 and Camp Chilliwack in 1942. The community continued to thrive through the 1950s to the 1980s. The 1997 closure of Camp Chillwiack, then named CFB Chilliwack, was a large economic blow to the Vedder Crossing community. However, the community continued to grow and is more commonly known today as Sardis, South Chilliwack, the Crossing, or the Vedder. |
