Scope & Content |
Possibly a ticket stub. Printed text states B.C. Cold Storage Locker Association March 25 & 26 1949". Stamped in the middle of the stub it reads "Mrs. Perry Dickinson Chilliwack, B.C." On the back of the stub a handwritten note states "This is where her husband Samuel Perry Dickinson worked at one time". Note likely written by Violet Dickinson's daughter, Lynne Phillips. |

Violet Phyllis Dickinson (nee Craven) (b. April 1, 1919, England-d. September 28, 2013, Chilliwack, BC) came to Canada in 1928 with her parents, Will & Flo Craven, and her siblings, Alex and Frances. They lived in Agassiz for a year, then moved to Chilliwack. As a teenager, she worked as a housekeeper for several local seniors, then worked at the Royal Hotel. On December 18, 1942, Violet married Samuel Perry Dickinson. They had two daughters, Frances Lynne (know as Lynne) and Sandra Leslie. Violet hosted the "Chat-A Way" Club from her home twice a week during the 1950s. The club went on to become the Chilliwack Senior Recreation Centre. She continued volunteering in the community throughout her life. Samuel Perry Dickinson (b. May 14, 1911, Duncan, BC-d. August 21, 1990, Chilliwack, BC) moved to Chilliwack with his family in 1913. His parents were Wallace and Lizzie Dickinson, his siblings were Farley, Belle, and Lois. Samuel Perry Dickinson grew up on a farm across from Little Mountain and attended Cheam Elementary. He graduated from Chilliwack High School, and attended the Vancouver Normal School. He worked for his father's logging operation on Harrison Lake; at the Woolworth's store in 1928; on the Wahleach power project; and for 23 years was a parking meter and traffic superintendent for Chilliwack. |
