Provenance |
Drafting template used by employees at the Fraser Valley Regional District [FVRD]. This drafting template is a type 851385, made by KOH-I-NOOR HARDTMUTH in the United States, to draw shapes such as circles, squares, triangles, and hexagons. Drafting templates are stencils that allow the user to draw specific symbols and shapes that are repeatedly used in a design. By tracing around the holes, the user can quickly and accurately draw the shape required. Joseph Hardtmuth founded the stationary company KOH-I-NOOR in 1790 in Austria. In 1802, the company patented the first pencil lead. The factory in Ceské Budejovice, Czech Republic has been in operation since 1848, and it still ensures the largest volume of KOH-I-NOOR HARDTMUTH production. After the Second World War, KOH-I-NOOR HARDTMUTH became a state-owned company, before again becoming privately held in 1992. Since 2007, it has been a member of the Czech parent company KOH-I-NOOR Holding group. The company has production facilities in more than 80 countries (https://www.koh-i-noor.cz/en/about-us). The FVRD (1995 - present) is a local government that delivers over 100 separate services to over 280,000 residents in the Fraser Valley. Services include: fire protection, sewer, water, storm drainage, building inspection, bylaw enforcement, planning, and zoning and development. Communities include eight unincorporated Electoral Areas as well as the municipalities of: Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Harrison Hot Springs, Hope, Kent, and Mission. The headquarters is based in Chilliwack at the intersection of Cheam Avenue and Young Road. Employees in the Engineering and the Planning and Development departments, particularly surveyors, drafters, and GIS technicians, likely used templates such as this general purpose template in their work. |
