Provenance |
Object was manufactured by Philips Electrical Works and obtained by donor during his employment at BC Tel (1971 - 1997). In November 1922, the Eugene F. Philips Electrical Works plant opened in Brockville, Ontario. The company, originating from Rhode Island, United States, already had a Canada-based plant in Montreal (which opened in 1904). The Brockville plant was expanded in 1926 and, again, in 1948, the same year the Canadian head office was moved from Montreal to Brockville. In 1964, the company was re-named Philips Cables Limited. Despite a number of US-based Philips plants closing in the 1980s, the Brockville plant remained open; however, in 1996, the plant was formally closed (Brockville Museum). |
