McFeely and Prior Ltd. was located at 20 Wellington Avenue and 23 Yale Road West. They occupied the Wellington Avenue building formerly of Menzies Hardware (known to have been at the 20 Wellington location in 1939/40). MC and MC took over Menzies Hardware, announced in the Chilliwack Progress May 7, 1941 retaining Hugh D. Carlson as manager. McLennan, McFeely & Prior maintained their Yale Road West location until at least 1953. The firm continued on Wellington Avenue until circa 1961, though the Prior name was dropped circa 1958-1959. In 1962-1963 the business became J.H. Ashdown Hardware Co. Ltd. with I.F. Brown, formerly of McLennan, McFeely as manager. About 1965 the store became Saan Stores held until circa 1983 at which time the building became vacant for some years. Save-On-Furniture and Appliances Ltd. occupied the building in 1989 and possibly earlier until it became Community Services in 1995. The McLennan, McFeely and Prior firm was nicknamed "MC & MC". |
